In order to strengthen mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and people around the world and promote China’s exchange and cooperation with other countries in various fields, the Chinese government sets up scholarships for talented students and scholars to pursue higher education or conduct research in Chinese universities.

Application Methods —— Undergraduate Chinese Program

Students applying for Chinese Government Scholarship should directly contact the local Chinese Embassy or Consulate. When completing the scholarship application form, the applicant should select Shanghai Jiao Tong University as the first priority. The scholarship content is subject to the website of China Scholarship Council. As for accommodation, SJTU does not provide free dormitory, but provides accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month).
Students applying for SJTU scholarships can click the option “Apply for scholarship” when completing the online application form. Excellent students will be awarded the scholarships in the following form.

First-Class Scholarship	Period：4 years Covers tuition, living allowance (2,500 CNY per month), accommodation subsidy, insurance	Applicants should be officially admitted by SJTU and not be awardees of other scholarships at the same time. Scholarship decision is based on the comprehensive ranking of applicants’ both academic and interview performance. Scholarship results will be announced together with the admission results. SJTU reserves the right of final explanation.
Second-Class Scholarship	Period：4 years Covers tuition, accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month), insurance
Third-Class Scholarship	Period：4 years Covers accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month), insurance

Second-Class Scholarship	Period：4 years Covers 50% of the tuition, accommodation subsidy (1,000 CNY per month), insurance
Third-Class Scholarship	Period：4 years Covers 25% of the tuition, insurance

Application Methods —— Graduate Programs

Incoming international graduate students have two options for Chinese Government Scholarship applications: through Shanghai Jiao Tong University (Type B) or through Chinese Embassies/Consulates in their home country (Type A). Applicants may choose only one application channel, as submitting duplicate applications through multiple channels is not permitted.

Apply for Chinese Government Scholarship through SJTU

When applying at http://apply.sjtu.edu.cn/, applicants should select “Apply for Scholarship through SJTU” and follow the online instructions. Applicants may register on the CSC website (https://studyinchina.csc.edu.cn/#/register ), follow the application procedure and submit the application form. When applying on the CSC website, please make sure to choose Scholarship Type B, as well as fill in SJTU’s agency number “10248” and upload the pre-admission notice of SJTU (provided the university's review results are positive) and other required materials. It is important to complete the scholarship application procedures on time, according to the university’s requirements.
Apply for Scholarships through Chinese Embassies/Consulates in the Home Country

Applicants may also apply for scholarship opportunities through the Chinese Embassies or Consulates in their home countries. The application schedule varies by country (usually from November to April). Please consult the Chinese Embassy/Consulate regarding its application schedule, eligibility, requirements, procedures, necessary documents, agency number, program categories, and other relevant information in advance. Regarding accommodation, SJTU does not provide free dormitories; however, the university offers an accommodation subsidy based on your scholarship coverage. Students may choose to reserve on-campus accommodation or live off-campus.
