On February 19, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) alumna Sharon Yixuan Li was named a recipient of the 2025 Sloan Research Fellowship by the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. This year, 126 early-career scientists across seven major disciplines were recognized, including 28 scholars of Chinese descent.

To celebrate its 50th anniversary, Cell magazine recently launched a special feature titled “50 Scientists that Inspire,” honoring 50 outstanding scientists worldwide who drive innovation, transcend disciplinary boundaries, and inspire future generations. One of the outstanding scientists is Jiawei Wang, a 1999 graduate of the School of Life Sciences and Biotechnology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).

The world's leading multidisciplinary science journal Nature recently published a groundbreaking study led by Academician Jun Ye titled “Frequency ratio of the 229mTh nuclear isomeric transition and the 87Sr atomic clock.” The study was selected as the journal’s cover story and accepted just 27 days after submission—in other words, fast! Additionally, the paper was also featured in the Science News series. This work introduces a new endeavor in which scientists will now attempt to use the findings of this study to test whether the fundamental laws of physics change over time, as predicted by many foundational theories.

After a year-long process of nominations, evaluations, and reviews, MIT Technology Review China × DeepTech has officially announced the recipients of its “2023 China Intelligent Computing Innovators” award. Among those honored are Professor Junchi Yan and Professor Xiaolei Zuo of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).

On February 6, 2024 (Washington time), the U.S. National Academy of Engineering (NAE) released its list of newly elected members for 2023. A total of 114 U.S. members and 21 international members were elected. Among them is Xia Zhiyong, a 1987 graduate of the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).
