FAQ

Authoritative answers, efficient clarification. From academic studies to daily life, a one-stop guide that helps with every step.

If I complete the survey, does that guarantee my child a spot in an affiliated school?

Not necessarily. For children who do not reside in the designated school district, enrollment in an affiliated school depends on two conditions:

1.The child must meet public school admission criteria for the relevant district (please refer to local government notices).

2.The affiliated school must have available spaces for faculty children, which varies each year.

What if I don’t participate in the survey? Will it affect my child’s chance of attending an affiliated school?

If your child resides in the designated district of an affiliated school, not participating in the survey will not affect enrollment. However, for children who reside outside the designated district, we strongly recommend participating in the survey to ensure proper consideration.

Can SJTU faculty children automatically be enrolled into affiliated high schools?

No. High school admissions are subject to the application process and placement system overseen by the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission.

If my child does not yet meet the eligibility requirements for public school enrollment in Shanghai, can they attend an affiliated school temporarily?

No. Currently, SJTU-affiliated schools do not accept temporary or visiting students. Please complete all required documentation for formal enrollment as soon as possible.

I am an SJTU faculty member. Can my child transfer to an affiliated school if they are currently studying in another city, district, or school?

Due to limited enrollment quotas, transfer opportunities are currently only available to new faculty members who meet the eligibility criteria for the current academic year.

I am a new faculty member. How do I apply for my child’s school placement?

Eligible new faculty can submit their application through the “Faculty Child Enrollment Application” section under the "General Education" tab on the “My SJTU” application (交我办).

As a new faculty member, when can I apply and complete the transfer process for my child?

For eligible families applying for a transfer:

  • For the fall semester, applications must be submitted by June 30.
  • For the spring semester, the deadline is December 31 of the previous year.
  • The online application system is open from June 1 to August 31 (for fall transfers) and from October 1 to December 31 of the previous year (for spring transfers). Please prepare all required materials in advance and submit them within the designated timeframe.
