1896-1952
St. John’s University School of Medicine (1896-1952): Founded by the American Episcopal Church and one of the earliest institutions in China authorized to confer MD degrees.

1911-1952
Aurora University School of Medicine (1911-1952): Founded by Xiangbo Ma and later reopened by the French Jesuits, this school was known for its rigorous medical education.

1918-1952
Tongde Medical College (1918-1952): A private Chinese-run medical institution that has trained over 1,000 medical professionals.

1952-2005
Shanghai Second Medical College/University (1952-2005): Formed through the merger of the three above schools in 1952, this new college became an important institution for medical education in East China. In 2005, it was integrated into SJTU.
