Shanghai Jiao Tong University Leadership Meets with Members of the Monaco Royal Family

On November 7, 2025, Zhao Xin, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, met with H.S.H. Melanie-Antoinette de Massy, Member of the Monaco Royal Family and President of the Monaco Tennis Federation, and her delegation at the Minhang Campus.

Zhao Xin extended a warm welcome to Princess Melanie-Antoinette de Massy and her delegation, and reviewed the fruitful achievements of Shanghai Jiao Tong University in international sports exchange and cooperation. He noted that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Monaco, and that this visit serves as an important opportunity to enhance cultural and sports exchanges between the two countries and to promote the development of university tennis. Zhao highlighted that the Monaco Tennis Federation possesses extensive experience in organizing and promoting international tournaments, which aligns closely with the development direction of SJTU’s sports disciplines. He expressed his hope that the two sides would take tennis as a bridge to carry out practical cooperation in areas such as talent cultivation, event collaboration, and faculty exchange, thereby expanding the breadth and depth of China–Monaco cultural and people-to-people exchanges.

Princess Melanie-Antoinette de Massy expressed her gratitude to Shanghai Jiao Tong University for its warm hospitality and shared updates on the recent development and cooperation vision of the Monaco Tennis Federation. She noted that the Monaco Royal Family has long been committed to promoting friendly relations between China and Monaco, and that tennis, as an international sport, serves as an important bridge to foster youth exchanges and strengthen people-to-people friendship between the two nations. Princess de Massy emphasized her hope to establish substantive cooperation with SJTU in areas such as tennis coach training, youth tournaments, and sports culture research, jointly creating a model of China–Europe collaboration in sports.

During the subsequent meeting, the two sides engaged in in-depth discussions on future cooperation intentions. The SJTU representatives provided an overview of the university’s achievements and plans in faculty development in sports education, hosting international sporting events, and cross-cultural sports research. Both parties agreed to take this meeting as a starting point to establish a regular communication mechanism and to advance the implementation of concrete cooperation projects.

Representatives from the Department of Physical Education and the Division of Global Cooperation and Exchange of Shanghai Jiao Tong University also attended the meeting.

Princess Melanie-Antoinette de Massy, a member of the Monaco Royal Family, currently serves as President of the Monaco Tennis Federation and President of the Monaco Kennel Club, among other positions. She has long been dedicated to promoting friendly exchanges between Monaco and China in the fields of culture and sports. After the meeting, Princess de Massy and her delegation visited the sports facilities on the Minhang Campus, toured the tennis courts, and engaged in friendly interactions with faculty members and students from SJTU’s High-Level Tennis Team and the SJTU Tennis Team. The visit concluded with a tour of the University History Museum, where the delegation gained a deeper understanding of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s history, culture, and its strong sports traditions.
