On April 16, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Malaysia Alumni Association was officially established in Kuala Lumpur. Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of the University Party Committee, gathered with over 50 Malaysian alumni to reconnect, reflect on their roots, and share visions for future development. Distinguished guests in attendance included Zheng Likang, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation of Malaysia; Liang Shengyi, Executive Director of the United Chinese School Committees Association of Malaysia (Dong Zong); Lin Guoyuan, President of the Malaysia Alumni Association of Chinese University Graduates; Wang Qijie, General Manager of China Construction Bank (Malaysia); Zhu Chongshi, former President of Xiamen University; and Wang Ruifang, President of Xiamen University Malaysia. Also present were representatives from alumni associations of other Malaysian universities, along with officials from SJTU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, the Alumni Association Office, and the School of Foreign Languages. The ceremony was hosted by Malaysian alumnus Peng Rizhen.
Gu Xiyao, Director of the SJTU Alumni Association Office, delivered a university update, highlighting the proud 129-year history and remarkable achievements of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He introduced the university’s recent progress in educational quality, academic excellence, talent cultivation, local partnerships, internationalization, and alumni engagement. He encouraged alumni to continue supporting and staying connected with their alma mater, working together to promote its ongoing development.
Li Shuwei from the Malaysia Alumni Association gave an overview of the preparation work, reflecting on the dedicated efforts alumni have made in recent years to establish the association. Gu Xiyao announced the first council member list, with Wang Huaibing appointed as President and Li Shuwei as Secretary-General. Yang Zhenbin awarded appointment letters to the newly elected council members and presented the association flag to President Wang Huaibing. In his remarks, Wang expressed his gratitude to the alma mater for its long-standing care and support for Malaysian alumni. Looking ahead, he shared his vision for the association’s development and pledged to unite and lead the Malaysia Alumni Association in strengthening ties with the university and contributing to cooperation and exchanges between the university and Malaysia.
Yang Zhenbin extended his warm congratulations on the establishment of the Malaysia Alumni Association and expressed heartfelt thanks to Malaysian alumni for their efforts and contributions in fostering cooperation and exchange between the alma mater and the region. He emphasized his hopes that the association would continue strengthening its organizational development, support the growth of fellow alumni, and serve as a vital bridge to promote the university’s advancement. He encouraged all alumni to remain diligent and grounded in their respective roles, to pursue innovation with integrity, and to join the broader SJTU community in unity and collaboration—further amplifying the alma mater’s global impact.
At the ceremony, Yang Zhenbin presented a plaque to Wang Huaibing, officially designating the "Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Home (Malaysia)." In return, Wang Huaibing, on behalf of the Malaysia Alumni Association, presented a commemorative gift to the alma mater.
