From October 29 to November 2, 2024, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) President Kuiling Ding led a delegation on an official visit to Japan. On the morning of November 2, the delegation met with Xiaosong Jiang, President of the SJTU Alumni Association in Japan (AAJ), along with the new council members and alumni representatives. Nearly 20 alumni and staff from the SJTU Alumni Association Office and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange attended the meeting.
Xiaosong Jiang kicked off the gathering with a warm welcome on behalf of the Japan Alumni Association. Jun Wu followed up with an update on how the association has been working to bring alumni together in Japan, support the university’s outreach, and strengthen ties between China and Japan. He also thanked everyone for sticking with the association and expressed his appreciation for the university’s ongoing support.
Kuiling Ding then greeted the group and praised the Japan alumni for their dedication. He shared some highlights of SJTU’s latest progress, including its new all-in-one system that links admissions, student life, career support, and alumni connections. The goal, he said, is to build school spirit and get alumni more involved in helping future graduates succeed. He reassured everyone that the university is always thinking of its alumni and looks forward to staying connected. He also extended a heartfelt invitation for everyone to come back to campus in 2026 for SJTU’s 130th birthday celebration.
Xiyao Gu, Director of the Alumni Association Office, announced the new council appointments for the Japan Alumni Association: Xiaosong Jiang (President), Jun Wu (Executive President), Zongtao Ge (Vice President), Yihua Chen (Secretary-General), and Zhirong Shen (Supervisor). President Kuiling Ding presented the appointment certificates to the members of the new council and unveiled the plaque of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Center in Japan.
