Participating in transnational teaching at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was an incredibly enriching experience. Transnational education breaks down cultural, geographical, and disciplinary barriers, cultivating global citizenship by exposing students to diverse perspectives and real-world challenges beyond their own borders. Through inclusive digital learning environments, learners develop essential skills such as adaptability, critical thinking, and intercultural communication. This approach not only deepens cross-cultural understanding but also prepares students to collaborate effectively in a globalized society.

Virtual exchange is a good opportunity to experience another country’s education system and teaching methods. It can also be a platform for us to forge new friends with our classmates.

I can confidently say this project was a joy. I didn’t expect to become as close to my group members as I did, and we maintained a close communication throughout the time together.

I joined three COIL online learning sessions. From my perspective as a Japanese student, I gained a deeper understanding of my own culture. The Chinese students asked so many questions about Japan, and we asked just as many about China. It was a great way to learn from each other. Such a precious experience. I’m so glad I had this opportunity!

Our group held three online collaborative study sessions, and through these discussions, we were truly touched by how warm and friendly the Japanese students were toward foreigners. This project gave me a whole new perspective on translation work, it’s not just about converting words from one language to another; understanding the cultural context behind the language is just as important. Even though we have different cultures and perspectives, I believe that more communication will always lead to deeper understanding. Thank you so much to all the Japanese students. I wish everyone the best in your future studies and life!
