A few days ago, the China Education Association for International Exchange (CEAIE) announced the results of the 2020 China Quality Certification of Education for International Students. Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) obtained the certification and has become the first and only university in China that was granted an 8-year certification.
The China Quality Certification of Education for International Students at Higher Education Institutions is implemented by the CEAIE based on the guidelines, criteria, and requirements agreed upon by the government, society, and universities/colleges. It evaluates whether the education and management of a university meet the universally accepted quality standards. The certification was approved by China’s Certification and Accreditation Supervision and Administration Commission and is qualified for certifying educational services.
The China Quality Certification of Education for International Students is divided into 5 first-level indicators, 17 second-level indicators, and 57 main points for observation, aimed at presenting an overall evaluation of the universities/colleges' performance. It focuses on guidelines, conditions for running universities/colleges, education and development, management services, and effectiveness. The results of this certification demonstrate the full recognition of SJTU’s achievements in international student development and management. According to the quality certification expert group, SJTU has one of the highest international levels among Chinese universities/colleges, and the practice that SJTU has developed in educating international students in China has been summarized as the “SJTU solution”, which serves as the first role model for other universities/colleges across China. The Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges (Office of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs) of the Ministry of Education will deploy resources based on quality certification to improve the quality and efficiency of study programs in China and set examples.
