The 2024 Science Carnival of the SJTU Women, Teachers and Doctors Academic Exchange Association Is Held

On June 23, 2024, the 2024 Science Carnival of the Women Teachers and Doctors Academic Exchange Association at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held at the Translational Medicine Building on the Minhang campus. The event was hosted by the university's Women's Committee and the Women Teachers and Doctors Academic Exchange Association, and organized by the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Analysis and Testing Center. Attendees included Yu Zhaoyang, Assistant to the President and Chairman of the Labor Union; Zeng Xiaoqin, Director of the Institute of Science and Technology Development; Su Zhuojun, Executive Deputy Director of the Women's Work Committee and Vice Chairman of the Labor Union; Zhu Haiying, Executive Deputy Chairman of the School of Medicine's Labor Union and Executive Deputy Director of the Women's Committee; Wu Shuqin, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Analysis and Testing Center; and Chen Feng, Director of the Analysis and Testing Center. Over 170 doctors and teachers from the School of Medicine and affiliated hospitals also participated. The carnival featured an opening ceremony, expert reports, a tour and introduction to the Analysis and Testing Center, and free exchange and outreach activities, all hosted by Zhou Huifang, President of the Women Teachers and Doctors Academic Exchange Association.

Yu Zhaoyang welcomed the women teachers and doctors, expressing hope that the event would provide a multidisciplinary exchange platform and make full use of the university's advanced public instruments and facilities. He emphasized the importance of exploring innovative integrations of medical health and engineering technology to advance cutting-edge medical research.

Zeng Xiaoqin highlighted the significance of women teachers and doctors in the forefront of scientific research and healthcare. She encouraged them to continue their rigorous scientific attitude, deep academic foundation, and outstanding innovative spirit, utilizing large-scale public instrument platforms to address frontier issues and challenges in interdisciplinary fields of medicine and engineering.

Professor Wu Ji from the Bio-X Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University gave a keynote report on "Discovery and Application Prospects of Female Reproductive Stem Cells." She has also been actively mentoring female university students in their scientific pursuits, which earned her a thank-you letter from Su Zhuojun on behalf of the Shanghai Women's Federation.

Professor Ye Youqiong from the School of Basic Medicine presented on "Spatial Omics-Based Analysis of Tumor Microenvironment and Immunotherapy."

Chen Feng provided a detailed introduction to the Analysis and Testing Center, covering its development, current status, technical capabilities, and specific case studies.

After the reports, participants toured various platforms of the Analysis and Testing Center, led by members of the center's "Presentation Team." The innovative "menu-style" tour allowed attendees to choose areas of interest, such as spectroscopy analysis, experimental animal center, microscopy imaging platform, and performance components platform. This tailored approach facilitated in-depth exchanges and discussions, meeting the personalized needs of scientific innovation.

Through detailed explanation and in-depth communication, the participants had a deeper understanding of the instruments, testing capabilities and service level of the analysis and test center, and the on-site discussion was heated, and they expressed their willingness to further exchange or cooperation in the future.

 

The afternoon featured outreach activities. Before these activities, Zhang Dandan, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Design, offered her best wishes to the participating women teachers and doctors, hoping they would have a special experience.

Creative and artistic activities at the School of Design attracted many attendees. They experienced printmaking, woodworking, essential oil extraction, and miniature landscape creation, offering a refreshing and tranquil break from their busy work schedules. Professional photographers captured their most authentic and natural moments. The event reached a climax with a dragon boat water sports experience, where participants, guided by professional coaches, engaged in dragon boat rowing, emphasizing the importance of teamwork.

Since its establishment in 2019, the Women Teachers and Doctors Academic Exchange Association has been fostering interdisciplinary exchanges and promoting the growth of women in academia and medicine. The association, supported by the university's Labor Union and Women's Committee, regularly organizes academic exchange forums and social events, aligning with international scientific trends and addressing national needs and clinical practices.
