Shanghai Jiao Tong University Establishes School of Integrated Circuits

On March 31, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) officially inaugurated its School of Integrated Circuits. The ceremony was attended by key figures including Shanghai Vice Mayor and Minhang District Party Secretary Chen Yujian, Minhang District Deputy Party Secretary and District Mayor Chen Huawen, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Development and Reform Commission Qiu Wenjin, Deputy Director of the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission Sun Zhenrong, Minhang District Party Committee Standing Member and Deputy District Mayor Zhao Liang, Minhang District Deputy Mayor Zhang Xian, SJTU Party Secretary Yang Zhenbin, SJTU President and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Ding Kuiling, university leaders Zhang Ansheng, Lin Litao, and Zhang Zhaoguo, as well as deans and academicians from sister universities, heads of relevant departments, experts, scholars, and corporate representatives. The ceremony was hosted by Zhu Xinyuan, SJTU Party Committee Standing Member and Vice President.

Ding Kuiling delivered a welcoming address, stating that the establishment of the School of Integrated Circuits is a crucial step for SJTU in implementing the important directives of General Secretary Xi Jinping during his visit to Shanghai and responding to the national strategy of developing the country through science and education. He expressed his hope that the faculty and students of the school would confidently and faithfully contribute to the autonomy and control of the integrated circuit field, thus supporting Shanghai's development as a global innovation center and accelerating the realization of high-level self-reliance and strength.

Chen Huawen, on behalf of the Minhang District Party Committee and District Government, congratulated the establishment of the School of Integrated Circuits. He noted that the school's establishment would inject new vitality into Minhang's industrial upgrading and high-quality development, fully supporting the creation of a "City of Science, Technology, and Innovation." He expressed his hope that this ceremony would serve as a new starting point for both parties to advance hand in hand, enabling mutual empowerment, promoting technological innovation and results transformation in the integrated circuit field, and achieving dual victories in regional development and university research breakthroughs, thus creating a new hub for the integrated circuit industry.

In the presence of the attendees, city and district leaders, along with university officials, jointly unveiled the plaque for the SJTU School of Integrated Circuits.

During the event, Zhao Liang and Lin Litao signed a strategic framework cooperation agreement on behalf of SJTU and the Minhang District People's Government. This agreement aims to accelerate the development of integrated circuit disciplines, technological research and development, and results transformation, empowering high-quality industrial economic development. Both parties will cooperate in integrating and sharing resources, promoting innovative development in the integrated circuit industry, and facilitating talent exchange and interaction.

Following the signing ceremony, Academician Liu Ming from Fudan University and Vice President Qiao Jinxuan of Goke Microelectronics Co., Ltd., spoke as representatives of academicians and enterprises, respectively. They expressed their hope to work closely with the school, focusing on the forefront of the integrated circuit discipline, strengthening collaborative efforts on key core technologies, and cultivating more high-level innovative talents in the field of integrated circuits.

To better guide the academic direction and strategic development of the School of Integrated Circuits, an Academic Advisory Committee was established, with several academicians appointed as the first batch of advisory committee members. Yang Zhenbin presented appointment letters to these members.

In addition, to enhance collaborative technological research and talent cultivation through industry-education integration, an Industry-Education Collaborative Expert Committee was formed, inviting over twenty key enterprise experts as the first batch of expert members.

At the ceremony, Guan Xinping, Dean of the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, signed strategic cooperation framework agreements on behalf of the School of Integrated Circuits with more than ten partner enterprises. These agreements aim to promote cooperation in technological research and development, talent cultivation, and accelerate the transformation of scientific achievements. This initiative seeks to explore a new ecosystem of development characterized by a cyclical linkage of "talent cultivation-talent aggregation-technological innovation-industrial upgrading."
