Against the backdrop of significant impacts of artificial intelligence (AI) on the education sector, and to encourage teachers to conduct in-depth research on the influence of AI on teaching activities, thereby promoting the dual enhancement of teaching quality and student learning outcomes, the Teaching Development Center at Shanghai Jiao Tong University formulated the "Generative AI Teacher Usage Guidelines" in June 2023. After extensive solicitation of teachers' opinions and suggestions, the center completed the revision at the end of November and officially released it to teachers on December 13th. The guidelines elaborate on aspects such as data privacy and security, copyright and academic integrity, ethics and fairness, data accuracy and regulatory mechanisms, training capabilities and critical thinking cultivation, and the auxiliary positioning and avoidance of dependence on tools. The document also explicitly states that it will undergo continuous improvement in the future in line with technological advancements and the introduction of the latest national policies.
Alongside the release of the "Generative AI Teacher Usage Guidelines," Shanghai Jiao Tong University has also announced the "Shared Mechanism for the Application Cases of AI in Teaching." Based on the 19 teaching application cases developed under the 2023 "AI + Education” Special Fund, the Teaching Development Center has established a web platform to facilitate the collaborative creation and sharing of "AI + Education" teaching cases among all faculty and students. The platform will be continuously updated on a weekly basis to actively promote the practical implementation of artificial intelligence in classrooms and comprehensively enhance the quality of teaching with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
