SJTU Leadership Meet with the U.S. Former Secretary of Energy and Nobel Laureate in Physics Steven Chu

On the afternoon of December 13th, Ding Kuilin, the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, met with a delegation led by Steven Chu, former U.S. Secretary of Energy, 1997 Nobel Laureate in Physics, professor at Stanford University, and foreign academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, at the Minhang campus. Vice President Xu Xuemin and Huang Zhen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of the Institute of Smart Energy Innovation, participated in the reception.

Ding Kuilin warmly welcomed the visit of Steven Chu and his delegation. He briefed them on the latest developments in the university's research and development in the field of green energy. He expressed that Shanghai Jiao Tong University has a strong research and development foundation and a wide-ranging research layout in future energy technologies. He hoped for collaboration and mutual development between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Stanford University in areas such as green energy and carbon neutrality.

Steven Chu expressed gratitude for the warm reception from the university. He stated that pragmatic international cooperation and exchange would help humanity better address global challenges such as climate change. He highly appreciated the educational achievements Shanghai Jiao Tong University has made in recent years and the international influence it has gained. He expressed his willingness to support cooperation and exchange between Stanford University and Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

After the meeting, Steven Chu, as the guest speaker for the 207th session of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University "Master Forum," delivered a lecture at the Takata Auditorium of the School of Mechanical Engineering under the theme "Climate Change and Innovative Paths to a More Sustainable Future." Over 200 faculty members and students from the School of Mechanical Engineering, the Institute of Carbon Neutrality and Development, and other departments attended the lecture.
