International Affairs Division 2024-01-05 77

Recently, the 26th International Conference on Medical Image Computing & Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) – a premier conference in the field of medical image analysis, took place in Vancouver, Canada. Faculty and students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University delivered outstanding performances during the conference.

SJTU doctoral candidate Yang Chen won the Young Scientist Award

Professor Yang Xiaokang and Associate Professor Shen Wei from the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering and the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University mentored doctoral candidate Yang Chen from the class of 2021. Yang Chen was awarded the MICCAI 2023 Young Scientist Award for his research titled "Neural LerPlane Representations for Fast 4D Reconstruction of Deformable Tissues," focusing on rapid and high-quality reconstruction of human tissues. This award, recognizing the top 5 papers each year from the submitted manuscripts, is granted to the first author. Among the 2,250 submitted papers this year, 730 were selected as finalists.

MICCAI, the International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention, is the largest and most influential international academic conference in the field of medical image computing and computer-assisted intervention. It covers a range of interdisciplinary fields, including medical imaging, artificial intelligence, computer vision, surgical robotics, and augmented reality technologies for medical applications. The MICCAI Young Scientist Award candidates undergo three rounds of paper review, including blind expert review, chair committee review, and jury review. The final award-winning papers are selected based on the quality and scores assigned during the review process. This award recognizes the outstanding quality of papers authored by young researchers.

SJTU Students Excel in MICCAI Challenges

MICCAI CHALLENGES are a crucial component of the MICCAI conference, hosting several international challenges in the field of medical image analysis each year. It serves as an international competition platform for researchers and developers in the fields of medical image computing and computer-assisted interventions, aiming to encourage and propel technological development and applications in this domain. Students from Professor Wang Lisheng's team at the Department of Automation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, including Liu Yusheng and Helanshan, achieved remarkable success by securing first place in both the "A ConeBeam Computed Tomography Segmentation Challenge" and the "Dental Panoramic Image Tooth and Disease Detection Challenge." Their outstanding performance on the international stage showcased the excellence of Shanghai Jiao Tong University students.
