SJTU Students Excel in China International College Students' Innovation Competition

The China International College Students' Innovation Competition (CICSIC) is the top-ranked event by the Chinese Higher Education Association. This year, a total of 4.21 million projects from 5,296 schools in 151 countries and regions worldwide participated, with 17.09 million individuals registering for the competition. Among them, 1,260 outstanding projects advanced to the final on-site competition, and 423 projects were awarded the gold prize.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University had a total of 18 projects enter the national final on-site competition, achieving an impressive result of 10 gold and 8 silver medals. Several silver and bronze awards are yet to be officially announced. The university's gold medal count ranks 4th nationwide, and in the international projects category, it ranks 2nd nationally. SJTU stands out as the only C9 university and one of only three universities nationwide to have won gold medals in all competition tracks.

In this competition, SJTU not only set a new historical record for the total number of medals but also achieved a breakthrough by securing zero in the Red Tour public welfare group and the industrial proposition track, winning 1 gold and 2 gold medals respectively. This successfully fulfilled the predetermined goals for this competition. Notably, the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, as well as the Michigan School, received gold and silver awards for the first time. In addition, the internationally recommended and cultivated project "Waste-to-Value" from our university made it to the championship competition stage and secured the third place.

Shanghai Jiao Tong University President and Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Ding Kuilin, Vice President Zhang Zhaoguo, Deputy Dean of Academic Affairs Wu Jingyi, along with leaders from various administrative departments and academic faculties, observed the competition and warmly greeted the participating students and faculty members from our university.

The championship competition concluded with the flag handover ceremony and a thematic performance by the host of the next edition. The China International College Students' Innovation Competition (2024) will be jointly hosted by the Ministry of Education and the Shanghai Municipal People's Government. Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the People's Government of Minhang District will co-host the event.
