Three SJTUers Elected as IEEE Fellows

On November 28th, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) announced the list of new IEEE Fellows. Three SJTUers, Li Jie, Xie Xiaorong, and Ren Haoxing, have been selected as IEEE Fellows for the year 2024.

Li Jie, Chair Professor at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Director of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Blockchain Research Center, and Foreign Member of the Japan Academy of Engineering. His primary research areas include big data, AI, blockchain, cloud computing, information system architecture, and security. He serves as Co-Chair of the IEEE Big Data Technical Community, Founding Chair of the IEEE ComSoc Technical Committee on Big Data, and a member of the IEEE Big Data Standards Committee. Additionally, he is an editorial board member for several IEEE Transactions and Journals.

Xie Xiaorong, a 1996 graduate in Power Systems and Automation from the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, is a tenured professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University. He also serves as the Vice Dean of the Institute of Carbon Neutrality and is an advisor at the Flexible Power Supply Research Center of the Energy Internet Innovation Research Institute at Tsinghua University.

Haoxing Ren, a graduate of the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, received his bachelor's degree in Applied Electronic Technology in 1996 and master's degree in Physical Electronics in 1999. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin. Currently, he serves as the Director of Design Automation Research at NVIDIA.

Ren's primary research areas include artificial intelligence, machine learning, and circuit and VLSI design.

IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) is an international association of electronics and information science engineers. An IEEE Fellow is an esteemed member of this international association, representing the highest level of membership and the most prestigious honor bestowed by IEEE. It is recognized as a distinguished achievement and a significant professional accomplishment in the academic and technological fields. Elevation to IEEE Fellow status requires substantial contributions to the advancement or application of engineering science and technology, creating substantial value for society. The number of individuals elected as IEEE Fellows does not exceed 0.1% of the total IEEE membership for the year. Over the past decade, approximately 300 individuals worldwide have been elected as IEEE Fellows each year.
