On November 7th to 8th, 2023, the 25th Shanghai Jiao Tong University - Osaka University Bilateral Academic Symposium was held in Japan. Wu Dan, Deputy Director of the Executive Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, led a delegation to visit Osaka University and attended the relevant activities of the symposium.

On the morning of November 7th, President Nishio Shojiro of Osaka University warmly met with Wu Dan and the delegation. Both parties reviewed the existing foundation of collaboration between the two universities and discussed future directions for cooperation.

Shojiro Nishio expressed that Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University have maintained a close collaborative relationship, achieving fruitful results in academic exchanges, student visits, and collaborative research projects. Despite the impact of the pandemic, the first three sessions of the symposium were held online. After a wait of four years, this symposium has resumed in-person meetings. He warmly welcomed more than forty scholars and students from Shanghai Jiao Tong University on behalf of Osaka University.

Wu Dan, on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, expressed gratitude for the warm reception from Osaka University. He pointed out that the annual bilateral academic symposium promotes comprehensive cooperation between the two universities and provides strong support for their international development. He hopes that scholars from both universities, through the platform of the symposium, can fully explore the latest research results and development trends in their respective academic fields, further promoting international research collaboration and joint talent cultivation between the two universities.

The academic symposium between the two universities featured seven sub-forums covering areas such as welding, laser technology, information science, marine engineering, industrial biotechnology, combustion engineering, and smart cities. On the afternoons of November 7th and the mornings of November 8th, each sub-forum conducted academic exchanges and discussions. Osaka University's Vice President Manabu Tanaka personally participated in the sub-forum on welding. The organization of this academic symposium will further enhance academic exchanges and collaboration between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University, promoting the mutual development of education and research between the two institutions.
