On the afternoon of March 18, 2023, the "Gathering Together: Conversations on the Beauty of Investment" 2023 Annual Conference, jointly organized by the Finance and Investment Branch of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University Alumni Association and the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Federation, was successfully held at the Shanghai West Suburb Guesthouse. Ding Kuiling, the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Vice President Zhang Ansheng, Director of the Alumni Association Office Gu Xiye, Jiang Wenning, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Antai College of Economics and Management, Cheng Shijun, Executive Dean of Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance, and other faculty members from relevant departments and colleges attended the conference along with alumni representatives from various sectors, including finance and venture capital, and nearly 400 alumni from the Finance and Investment Branch and the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Federation, to share industry insights and reminisce about alumni friendship. The conference was chaired by Liu Song, a member of the Finance and Investment Branch and a 1992 alumni.

Ding Kuiling, on behalf of the university, extended a warm welcome and best wishes to the alumni from various sectors present at the event. He highly acknowledged the role played by the industry branches established under the Alumni Association in aligning with national strategic needs and contributing to the development of Shanghai's "Five Centers" initiative. He emphasized that "the alma mater is the spiritual home of alumni, and alumni are the precious wealth of the alma mater." The university will continue to strongly support alumni activities and strengthen the bonds between alumni and their alma mater. Ding Kuiling expressed his sincere expectations to the alumni and warmly welcomed them to visit their alma mater regularly.

Shen Nanpeng, a member of the Class of 1985, Chairman of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Association, and Founding and Managing Partner of Sequoia Capital China, delivered a speech via video for the event. Drawing from his legendary journey of transitioning from a science and engineering background to the investment industry, Shen Nanpeng emphasized the importance of continuous learning and expressed his gratitude to his alma mater for instilling in him a love for lifelong learning. He highlighted that the joint annual meeting brought together industry elites from the entrepreneurship and venture capital sectors as well as the financial investment industry, providing a valuable opportunity for cross-disciplinary learning and exchange among the alumni.

During the keynote speech session, Professor Wen Yi, a distinguished professor at the Antai College of Economics and Management, highlighted from a historical perspective that the new industrial revolution driven by AI has arrived, and it is crucial for China to overcome the "Joseph Needham's Trap." To rise in the competition among major nations, it is urgent to establish China's own "science-technology-business" cycle accelerator.

Alumnus Xia Xiaohui from the class of 1994, President of the Financial Investment Association and Founder of Liuhe Zhiqian, delivered a keynote speech titled "How Investors Should Approach Stock Prices" to the alumni. He pointed out that investors can draw wisdom from Chinese traditional culture when dealing with stock prices, focusing on the concept of "jiu cha" (grasping the differences) and adopting a strategic approach. The principles of indirect paths from the Tao Te Ching, as well as the concepts of tai chi and the dynamics of the game of Go, are all valuable sources of inspiration, enabling us to have a more systematic and profound understanding of the art of investment.

During the roundtable forum, alumni from various fields engaged in discussions on two main topics: primary market investment and secondary market investment. As forum guests, Wu Jiong, Executive Chairman of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Federation and alumnus from the class of 1985, along with Mao Chengyu from the class of 1993, Zhu Jia from the class of 2004, Yang Guang from the class of 2006, and Sun Yuxuan from the class of 2007, shared their extensive industry and investment experiences in the field of entrepreneurship and venture capital. They presented a comprehensive equity investment sharing session that covered tracks such as TMT (Technology, Media, and Telecommunications), digitalization, semiconductor, and new energy. Their unique insights and enlightening ideas provided valuable perspectives for the audience.

The roundtable forum titled "Investment Dialogue: Prospects of Financial Market Investment" focused on secondary market investment and was hosted by Chen Xiaosheng, alumnus from the class of 1994, Vice Chairman of the Financial Investment Branch, and Chairman of Shenwan Lingxin Fund. During the forum, discussions were conducted by Huang Yong from the class of 1992, Gui Jiang from the class of 1995, Zhu Shaoxing from the class of 1994, Dang Kaiyu from the class of 1998, and Dong Chengfei from the class of 2000. They explored the future trends, opportunities, and risk points of the secondary market, delving into topics such as "Growth Stocks or Value Stocks?" and "Overweight Sectors or Balanced Allocation?". They also discussed this year's market hotspots, including the booming computer and digital economy, the semiconductor sector with valuations at a safe margin due to multiple corrections, and the valuation recovery of central and state-owned enterprises. The audience responded with continuous applause, creating a vibrant atmosphere at the event.

At the end of the forum, Chen Guangming, alumnus from the class of 1996, Honorary Chairman of the Financial Investment Branch, and Founder of Foresight Fund, along with Zhu Xiaohu, alumnus from the class of 1996 and Managing Partner of GSR Ventures, representing the finance and venture capital sectors, engaged in a dialogue titled "JU·JIAO: A Conversation." The dialogue was moderated by Yang Zhenyu, alumnus from the class of 1989, Vice Director of the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Joint Association, and Chief Investment Officer of the Jiaotong University Foundation.

During the dialogue, Chen Guangming and Zhu Xiaohu shared their understanding of the beauty of investment. They believed that the beauty of investment lies in accompanying the growth of companies, allocating funds to areas needed by society, and gaining returns and a sense of achievement in the process of accompanying stakeholders. At the same time, the two alumni, based on their experience of transitioning from engineering to investment professionals, encouraged SJTU students to leverage their strengths, have confidence, and face challenges in a positive competitive environment.
