Shanghai Jiao Tong University Signs Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Baidu Group

Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Baidu Group will embark on a new collaboration, aiming to jointly create a hub for AI talent and promote collaborative technological innovation. On May 31st, the signing ceremony for the strategic cooperation agreement took place at the Wengbo Building Conference Center on Shanghai Jiao Tong University's Minhang Campus. Ding Kuiling, the President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, held discussions and exchanges with Li Yanhong, the Chairman and CEO of Baidu Group, and witnessed the signing of the agreement. Shen Dou, Executive Vice President of Baidu Group and President of Baidu Intelligent Cloud Business Group, as well as Vice Presidents Yang Zhaoming and Qu Jing, and Zhu Xinyuan, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, along with department heads and experts from both sides, attended the event.

Li Yanhong stated, "Good universities are indeed at the forefront of fostering new trends. Many of the latest ideas, best concepts, and practical, cutting-edge skills originate from universities." Li Yanhong also discussed his insights into the IT technology industry. He believes that in the era of artificial intelligence, there has been a significant change in the IT technology stack. It has evolved from the three layers of chips, operating systems, and applications in the past few decades to the four layers of chips, frameworks, models, and applications. Future applications and software will predominantly be developed based on large models. The changes in the industry imply numerous new opportunities, one of which is AI for Science. Li Yanhong expressed his hope to combine Baidu's technology and expertise in artificial intelligence to empower Shanghai Jiao Tong University in conducting cutting-edge research, pushing the boundaries that humanity has not yet surpassed, and discovering previously unimaginable knowledge and technologies.

Ding Kuiling warmly welcomed Li Yanhong and his delegation and expressed great anticipation for further cooperation between the two parties. He emphasized that the current scientific and technological landscape is facing unprecedented challenges, and universities serve as the convergence point for education, technology, and talent. It is essential to keep pace with technological advancements, adapt to scientific development and societal needs, and cultivate more innovative talents. He stated that AI for Science is of great significance and will have a tremendous impact on various research fields. In the future, it may require more collaboration between enterprises and universities to participate in its development. He hopes that today's strategic cooperation signing is just the beginning and that Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Baidu can take this opportunity to deepen their collaboration, create platforms, gather resources, attract talent, and face challenges together. This collaboration aims to make future-oriented contributions to the world and all of humanity.

The participants from both sides engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges regarding the collaborative partnership and joint construction.

Under the witness of Li Yanhong, Ding Kuiling, Shen Dou, Qu Jing, Zhu Xinyuan, and Su Yuezeng, Yang Zhaoming and Zeng Xiaoqin signed the strategic cooperation agreement on behalf of both parties. According to the agreement, leveraging their respective technological foundations, talent advantages, and resource strengths, both parties will strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various fields, including scientific research and talent development. They will further enhance research collaboration, explore new paradigms of open collaboration in industry, academia, and research, promote information and data resource sharing, facilitate the deep integration of fundamental research and industrial applications, and foster long-term cooperation between academia and industry. They will jointly apply for and undertake various national and local research programs and major research projects. The two parties will also strengthen their cooperation mechanisms, explore joint talent training mechanisms, establish regular scholar exchange and collaboration mechanisms, promote the interdisciplinary integration of artificial intelligence, and contribute to the cultivation of outstanding academic talents and the production of high-level academic achievements.
