SJTU Research Team and IP SHANGHAI Jointly Released Global City Digital Image Communication Index

On March 27, IP SHANGHAI and the China Institute for Urban Governance of Shanghai Jiao Tong University jointly released the Report on Digital Communication of Global City Image, unveiling the first-ever Global City Digital Image Communication Index, aiming to help Shanghai establish itself as an international digital city and better showcase its image as a modernized Chinese city. The index evaluates the digital communication trend of city images, using 20 leading cities as samples. According to the report, New York, London, Paris, and Tokyo have performed outstandingly, ranking at the top of the index. Meanwhile, Beijing and Shanghai have also ranked among the top 10 cities in the comprehensive evaluation. The report provides both Chinese and English versions.

Planned by IP SHANGHAI and developed by the SJTU research team, the research selected its objects among the critical regions in the world and collected relevant data for 2022 through mainstream media databases, social media, and global Internet search engines, drawing a panorama of digital communication of global cities IP. According to the report, major cities worldwide will accelerate their digital image IP development in 2022. For instance, New York actively built itself into a city of open data and innovation. London accelerated its progress of creating a global green town, while Dubai had been striving to become a central city of the metauniverse.

The report presents the top ten cities with the most active digital communication in the world in the form of digital image IP based on the data analysis for 2022. Beijing’s unique digital image IP is “Double Olympic City, showcasing the charm of China”. The global digital communication centered on Chinese culture and Olympic elements made Beijing attract more than 2 billion people’s attention on social media. Shanghai, devoting itself to serving the people’s sense of fulfillment, happiness, and security, presented a digital image of a “better life, people’

s city” in the new era. Shanghai Lifestyle is the most hotly discussed urban keyword in global social media. Shanghai is a city of coffee, and e-sports, with architecture with perfect logic and rich details. The 15-minute community life circle forms a comfortable community living platform. The image of Shanghai in the digital world fully shows the impressive and vivid picture of Chinese modernization. The report highlights how the development of digital image IP is becoming increasingly important in building the image of global cities in the digital era.

The joint team believes that the new form of city image communication, represented by pioneering digital platforms like IP SHANGHAI in Shanghai, is practicing the innovative concept that everyone creates, displays, and shares. It has explored a new path of urban image communication with global influence, Chinese characteristics, and Shanghai's advantages. Moving forward, the joint research team will continue to advance the construction of the index system for international city image digital communication, release annual research reports, share vibrant examples of global city digital communication, and innovate the digital image IP of Shanghai.
