SJTU Professor Chen Haibo Invited as Co-Chair of the Program Committee for International Conference EuroSys 2025

Recently, Professor Chen Haibo from the School of Software in the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University has been invited to serve as the Co-Chair of the Program Committee for the 2025 ACM European Conference on Computer Systems (ACM EuroSys).

ACM EuroSys is an internationally renowned academic conference in the field of computer systems. It is also classified as a Class A international academic conference by the China Computer Federation (CCF A). The conference primarily focuses on research and practice in the field of computer systems, including operating systems, database systems, real-time systems, network middleware, distributed systems, parallel computing, and embedded systems. Since its establishment in 2006, ACM EuroSys has published numerous influential academic papers and has gained wide recognition in the international academic and industrial communities.

This is the first time that ACM EuroSys has invited scholars from Asia to serve as Program Committee Chairs. It is also the first time that a Chinese or Asian scholar has served as a Program Committee Chair for a top-tier international conference in the field of computer systems. This milestone signifies that the research conducted by Chinese scholars in the field of computer systems has received extensive recognition from the international academic community.

Chen Haibo is a distinguished professor at the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He is also the director of the Institute of Parallel and Distributed Systems and the director of the Ministry of Education Engineering Research Center for Operating System. He is recognized as a national high-level talent, an IEEE Fellow, and an ACM Distinguished Scientist. His main research areas include operating systems, distributed systems, and system security. The research outcomes of his work, which integrates academia, industry, and research, have been applied to billions of devices, resulting in extensive academic and industrial impact.

Chen Haibo has received several awards and honors, including the Chen Jiageng Young Scientists Award (Information Technology Science Award), the China Youth Science and Technology Award, the First Prize of the Ministry of Education's Technical Invention Award, the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation Award, and the CCF Young Scientist Award. He currently serves as the inaugural chair of the OpenHarmony Technical Steering Committee, the deputy director of the CCF System Software Special Committee, and an editorial board member and co-chair of the field for the flagship ACM magazine "Communications of the ACM," making him the first Chinese scholar to hold these positions. His research work has also received recognition, including the Huawei Outstanding Contribution Individual Award, Best Paper Awards at conferences such as ASPLOS, EuroSys, and VEE, the DSN "Time Verification Award," and the SIGMOD Research Highlight Award. According to the statistics from csrankings.org, he is tied for first place globally in terms of the number of papers published at top conferences in the field of operating systems, such as SOSP/OSDI, over the past five years (2018-2022). The book "Modern Operating Systems: Principles and Implementation," which he co-authored, was also awarded the "Most Beloved IT Book Award" for the year 2020.
