Professor Chen Cailian Honored as 2022 Top 10 Academic Star by N² WOMEN

Recently, the international N² Women Awards Committee announced the annual selection results. Professor Chen Cailian from the Department of Automation, School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering at Shanghai Jiao Tong University was honored as a Star in Computer Networking and Communications by N² Women. This recognition is attributed to her academic and technical research contributions in areas such as industrial IoT perception-communication co-design and time-sensitive networks.

 

Introduction to the award

N² Women (Networking Networking Women) is a global professional organization in the field of networking and communications. It aims to promote communication among female scholars in this field and is currently supported by several influential academic organizations in the networking and communications domain, including ACM SIGMOBILE, IEEE Communications Society, IEEE Computer Society, and the National Science Foundation (NSF), among others. N2Women publishes an annual list of rising stars and stars, to honor amazing women in the networking/communications field. This award carries significant international prestige within the networking and communications community.

 

Award recipient profile

Professor Chen Cailian is a distinguished professor and doctoral supervisor in the Department of Automation at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. She is a nationally recognized high-level talent. She has been honored as a "March 8th Red Banner Holder" and a "Model Worker in the Education System" by the Shanghai Municipal Government. Under her leadership, her team has received honors such as the "Civilized Post of Shanghai" and the "March 8th Red Flag Collective" in the education system.

Professor Chen Cailian specializes in interdisciplinary fields of automatic control, communication, and computation, including heterogeneous network distributed sensing, adaptive transmission in industrial environments, and intelligent collaborative decision-making in network environments. She has proposed an integrated design scheme called i-3C and has developed high-performance time-sensitive network gateways and testbeds, which have been applied in large industrial sites such as CRRC, Liugang, and Baosteel. Currently, she serves as the chair of two IEEE standardization working groups, actively promoting the development of international standards for relevant technologies. Her research achievements have received important awards such as the National Natural Science Second Prize, the Ministry of Education Natural Science First Prize, and the Shanghai Science and Technology Invention First Prize. In 2022, she and her team received the "Outstanding Industrial Technology Award" from the IEEE Information-Physical Systems Society.

Professor Chen Cailian has actively participated in academic activities in the field of computer networking and communications. She is currently an Outstanding Speaker of the IEEE Vehicular Technology Society (VTS) and serves as an editorial board member for international journals such as the IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology (TVT). She has also served as the Technical Program Committee Chair of ISAS'19 and as a Symposium Co-Chair for international flagship conferences such as Globecom and VTC on multiple occasions.
