Shanghai Jiao Tong University Will Hold the 19th PCST Biennial Conferences

On the evening of April 14th, the Network for the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST Network) held its General Assembly in Rotterdam, the Netherlands. During the meeting, a vote was conducted, and Shanghai Jiao Tong University was awarded the hosting rights for the 19th PCST Biennial Conference, which will be held in 2027. This marks the first time that China will host the PCST Biennial Conference.

Dr. Jenni Metcalfe, the President of PCST, announced the host city for PCST 2027 during the closing ceremony of PCST 2023 in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The Network for the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST Network) is the most influential and active international research organization in the field of science communication. Shanghai Jiao Tong University successfully bid to host the 19th Biennial Conference of the PCST in 2027, with guidance and support provided by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission.

On April 9th, a delegation led by Vice President Zhu Xinyuan of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, including Professor Li Benqian, Dean of the School of Media and Communication, Associate Professor Mou Yi, and Associate Professor Kang Dongjing, traveled to Rotterdam, the Netherlands, to participate in the on-site defense. On April 11th, the bidding team attended the defense session. Facing competition from teams from the United States, Australia, and other countries, the Shanghai Jiao Tong University team presented an international narrative that aligned with Western thinking and cultural habits, vividly sharing the story of China's scientific and technological achievements. The splendid Chinese culture, vibrant Shanghai, and the strong academic strength of Jiao Tong University aroused great interest among the PCST members. The exquisite PowerPoint presentation, well-organized conference plan, and strong domestic support impressed the PCST members. After a vote by 22 PCST members, Shanghai Jiao Tong University successfully obtained the hosting rights for the 2027 International Biennial Conference on Science and Technology Communication.

The members of the International Network for the Public Communication of Science and Technology (PCST) are spread across countries around the world, and the important conferences are bid for by various host countries and held in different continents. Since its first annual conference in 1989 in Poitiers, France, the PCST has successfully organized 16 conferences in different countries worldwide.

During the preparation for this bidding process, the School of Media and Communication at Shanghai Jiao Tong University conducted solid research and preparatory work under the guidance of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission. They collaborated with the university's Scientific and Technological Development Research Institute, the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, and other units to successfully complete the preparations. Additionally, the bidding for this conference received strong support from 26 institutions, including Peking University, Fudan University, Zhejiang University, Nanjing University, University of Science and Technology of China, Chinese Academy of Sciences Shanghai Branch, Shanghai Academy of Engineering Consultation and Academic Activities Center, Shanghai Science and Technology Communication Association, and Shanghai Science and Technology Museum.
