SJTU Professor Yang Xiaokang Elected Member of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence

In May 2022, the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) started evaluating and selecting CAAI members for the year 2022, according to the Charter of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence and the Regulations of the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence on Evaluating and Electing Members. After a series of procedures such as the nomination by the current CAAI members, the review by the Commission on Evaluating CAAI Members, the deliberation by the Expert Commission on Evaluating CAAI Members, voting and disclosure, 13 excellent scientific and technological practitioners specializing in artificial intelligence (AI) were elected as CAAI members, i.e., Huang Wei, Tian Qi, Wang Yunhong, Zhang Yi, Hu Guoping, Liu Zengliang, Pan Gang, Wang Wanliang, Yue Dong, Mei Tao, Zhang Lihua, Gao Yang, and Yang Xiaokang, the latter of whom is from the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).

CAAI Members

In 2017, the CAAI established a membership system aimed at commending those who have made excellent achievements in AI and major contributions to the CAAI and encouraging them to continue making even greater progress in science and technology. Being a member is the highest academic honor in the CAAI. As of this year, the CAAI has 111 members.

 

Yang Xiaokang’s profile

Yang Xiaokang, Executive Vice Dean and Professor of the Artificial Intelligence Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), is a recipient of funding from the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, an IEEE/CAAI Fellow, and Director of the Key AI Laboratory of the Ministry of Education. He is also the President of the Shanghai Image & Graphics Association and an editorial board member for IEEE Transactions on Multimedia and IEEE Signal Processing Letters. Professor Yang specializes in image processing and machine learning. His accolades include a number of awards, namely the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, the first prize of the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award, and the second prize of the National Postgraduate Education Outcome Award.

Founded in 1981, the Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence (CAAI) is the only national association in the field of intelligent science and technology that is officially registered with the Ministry of Civil Affairs, a national 4A social organization, and an official member of the China Association for Science and Technology. The association is eligible to recommend academicians for the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. It consists of 51 branches focusing on intelligent science and technology, including 43 specialized committees and eight work committees. CAAI’s mission is to unite scientific and technological practitioners and activists specializing in intelligence from across the country to promote China’s intelligent science and technology through academic research, domestic and international academic exchanges, science popularization, academic education, science and technology conferences, academic publishing, talent recommendation, academic evaluation, academic consulting, and technology review and awards, in an effort to provide intelligent scientific and technological services for the economic development, social progress, civilization improvement, and security of the country.
