New Journals Med-X and Science in One Health Unveiled

On August 29th, the ceremony for signing an agreement for the creation of the new journal Med-X and its kick-off was held remotely. It was attended by over 100 participants, such as Global Vice President of Springer Nature Arnout Jacobs, President of Springer Nature for Greater China Li Xian, Editor-in-Chief of Med-X, member of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) and Vice President of SJTU Xu Xuemin, Co-Editor-in-Chief of Med-X and Director of the Department of Bioengineering of the University of California, Los Angeles Li Song, advisor and editorial board member of Med-X and academician of the University of Sydney Professor Feng Dagan, academician of Tsinghua University Cheng Jing, academician of Southeast University Gu Ning, leaders of the SJTU School of Biomedical Engineering, young editorial board members of Med-X, and experts and scholars specializing in biomedical engineering. The ceremony was facilitated by the Director of the SJTU Journal Center Tan Yi.

Xu Xuemin and Li Xian signed an online agreement on behalf of SJTU and Springer Nature, respectively. In her introduction, Xu Xuemin emphasized that China needs to further enhance its global influence and academic leadership in the field of biomedical engineering, and that Med-X would build on the strong academic and faculty foundation of SJTU and the School of Biomedical Engineering to align with global standards, aiming to make it an international top comprehensive journal in biomedical engineering, and contribute to global academic exchanges and the efforts build a scientific and technological power.

Med-X is an international open-source journal jointly created by SJTU and Springer Nature. It aims to become an international top comprehensive journal in biomedical engineering, report new discoveries and technologies in biomedical engineering, build a high-end academic exchange and communication platform, and promote the integration and innovative development of biomedical engineering disciplines. It is expected to be officially published in January 2023.

On September 17th, the “2022 Pujiang Innovation Forum: One Health and Future Development Forum of the Low-carbon, Green and Sustainable Development Forum”, jointly held by the Pujiang Innovation Forum and SJTU and undertaken by the One Health Center of the SJTU and the University of Edinburgh, was held in Chongming. It was announced at the forum that Science in One Health, the international academic journal for one health studies, was officially created.

Science in One Health was created by the One Health Center of the SJTU and the University of Edinburgh, and has received strong support and cooperation from SJTU, the SJTU School of Medicine, the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association, Elsevier, and the Swiss Academies of Arts and Sciences. It has become the journal of the Chinese Preventive Medicine Association. On one hand, it promotes the joint development of the academic journal itself and relevant disciplines by building a first-class journal to improve and rely on relevant fields to enable the high-quality development of the journal. On the other hand, it sticks to the principle “One Health, One World”, and helps to improve the one health concept and decision-making practices and achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.
