Peng Yinghong reported to H.E. Sun Haiyan about the history of the SJTU Asia-Pacific Graduate Institute (SJTU-APGI) and the development status of talent training, academic research, cooperation, and exchange. SJTU-APGI is the only independently established institute by a Chinese university in Singapore. With the basis of 30 years of postgraduate education and ten years of scientific research cooperation, Shanghai Jiao Tong University opened a new chapter after being registered in Singapore. Under the complicated global situation and the challenges of the pandemic, with the guidance and support of the university, the institute has been steadily developing for three years.

Currently hosting more than 100 students, the institute has also developed cooperative relationships with Singaporean universities, government, and enterprises and is now exploring more collaborative opportunities in Southeast Asia. Additionally, the institute has made breakthroughs and found applications for key technologies of kitchen waste recycling and the suppression of cyanobacteria outbreaks. Practical solutions are also provided for urban governance in both Shanghai and Singapore. H.E. Sun Haiyan visited the experimental facilities and working space of the E2S2 project and met with SJTU Ph.D. students and researchers.

Sun Haiyan expressed her high expectations for SJTU-APGI and affirmed the excellent operation and successful results of its large-scale international cooperative research projects. She also hopes the institute will continue to further enhance its research ability, cultivate more outstanding talents, and promote concrete international cooperation.
