SJTUers have done it again! Taking home medals at the Tokyo Olympics!

As the Tokyo Olympics have come to an end, SJTUers have taken home some outstanding achievements. Let’s take a look back at these phenomenal accomplishments.

On July 26th, Li Binjie, a student at Antai School of Economics and Management, took home a bronze medal in the women’s 400m freestyle and broke the Asian record with a time of 4 minutes and 1.08 seconds. Li Binjie also swam the fourth leg of the women’s 4x200m freestyle relay and won gold with a world record time of 7 minutes, 40.33 seconds with her teammates, Yang Junxuan, Tang Muhan, and Zhang Yufei. This is the first time that the Chinese swimming team has won an Olympic gold medal in a relay event.

On July 27th, Xu Jiayu achieved 5th place overall with his seasonal best time of 52.51 seconds at the men’s 100m backstroke finals. He also took home a silver medal in the mixed 4x100m medley with teammates Yan Zibei, Zhang Yufei, and Yang Junxuan.

On July 28th, SJTU students Chen Yunxia and Zhang Ling won the 10th gold medal for China at the Tokyo Olympics women's quadruple sculls final together with their teammates Lyu Yang and Cui Xiaotong, breaking the world record with a time of 6 minutes and 5.13 seconds.

China’s Olympic table tennis team consists of numerous SJTUers, including Ma Long, Xu Xin, Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, and the head coach Liu Guoliang. Even the Luxembourg table tennis player Ni Xialian is an alumnus of SJTU. On July 26th, Xu Xin, an alumnus of Antai School of Economics and Management, won a silver medal in the table tennis mixed doubles event with his teammate Liu Shiwen. Sun Yingsha won silver in the women’s table tennis singles and gold in the team event with Wang Manyu and Chen Meng. Ma Long won gold in the men’s singles and the men’s team event together with Xu Xin.

On July 30th, Wang Shun won gold at the Men’s 200m individual medley whilst also breaking the Asian records with a time of 1 minute and 55 seconds.

Zhang Zhiting took home the women’s 3x3 basketball bronze medal with her teammates Wang Lili, Yang Shuyu, and Wan Jiyuan. This is the first time that China has won an Olympic medal in the 3x3 basketball event.

On August 1st, SJTU student Fan Yilin came 7th in the women’s uneven bars finals with a score of 13.9000.

This is an amazing result, and we are so proud of our Olympians!
