Gu Songfen Won the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award

On the morning of November 3, 2021, the State Preeminent Science and Technology Award 2020, was grandly presented at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Gu Songfen, alumnus of SJTU Department of Aeronautic Engineering, CAE and CAS academician, and researcher of China Aviation Industry Corporation, became the fifth SJTU alumnus to receive this top national scientific honor after Wu Wenjun, Xu Guangxian, Wang Zhenyi and Huang Xuhua.

Gu Songfen is a graduate from SJTU Department of Aeronautic Engineering in 1951, the only academician in aviation listed by both Chinese Academy of Science and Chinese Academy of Engineering, and a famous aircraft designer as well as an aerodynamicist. He was appointed as the academician of CAS in 1991 and the academician of CAE in 1994. He was involved in the research and development of many aircrafts, including JJ-1, CJ -6, J-8 and J-8 Ⅱ and served as the chief designer of J-8 and J-8 Ⅱ.

"A man of great virtue deserves high respect." Gu Songfen, who has dedicated his whole life to his country, has not only witnessed the development of aviation in China, but also set a moral model for generations of Chinese people. His story remains a lighthouse that inspires and guides all SJTUers to uphold the belief, keep forging ahead, and make consistent contributions to the rejuvenation of China.
