About SJTU and the China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC)
Founded in 1896, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is located in Shanghai, one of the world’s most innovative and fast-growing cities. With a long-standing academic tradition and global recognition, the university is a leader in cultivating excellence and driving forward new frontiers in science and technology.
The China-UK Low Carbon College (LCC) of SJTU was established with strong support from the Shanghai Municipal Government to promote innovation in low-carbon technologies and carbon resource management through an international platform. The College is guided by the philosophy of “international orientation, interdisciplinary integration, and industry-academia collaboration.” It works closely with top global universities such as the University of Edinburgh to build a distinct international academic system in fields such as low-carbon technology, carbon finance, carbon management, and circular economy. As China’s first dedicated low-carbon college, LCC integrates talent cultivation, scientific research, and societal engagement.
Guided by the nation’s carbon neutrality goals, the College leverages SJTU’s strengths in research and talent development to create a world-class low-carbon interdisciplinary research platform. It has established five specialized research centers: Carbon Finance and Carbon Management, New Energy and Energy Storage, Smart Energy and Big Data, Waste-to-Resource Technologies, and Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS). The College is committed to recruiting internationally competitive faculty, using long-term recruitment planning to support its strategic development and focus areas. It implements targeted recruitment and training programs for top-tier and early-career talent.
Since its establishment, the College has recruited over 30 faculty members, all of whom have academic or research experience at leading global universities. It has secured four national-level "Overseas High-Level Talent Recruitment" projects and achieved a 100% success rate in Shanghai’s local talent program applications. Overall, 80% of the faculty are covered by national or local talent initiatives.
In this thriving environment, young scholars returning from overseas will find not only a home for cutting-edge research, but also a launchpad to shape the future of low-carbon innovation. If you are a passionate academic, an explorer at the frontiers of climate and energy solutions, or a globally minded researcher looking to return and make a difference—we invite you to join us at the China-UK Low Carbon College and shape the future together.
