China-Africa cooperation has entered a fast track of high-quality development. Beyond collaborations in infrastructure and key industries, both sides are now working together to advance data governance and explore digital governance mechanisms. These efforts align with the "Belt and Road" vision of shared development, aiming to foster global economic stability and build inclusive digital governance frameworks worldwide. As one of Africa’s fastest-growing economies, Zambia has made significant investments in gender equality. However, as a representative country in Sub-Saharan Africa, it still faces major challenges in establishing evidence-based policy making due to the lack of reliable and gender-disaggregated statistical data.
In collaboration with Rwanda’s National Institute of Statistics (NISR) and the Gender Monitoring Office (GMO), the project team supported the development of the Gender Data Lab (GDL). Together, they co-hosted interactive workshops on data governance and communication, empowering local efforts toward gender equality. The initiative also created meaningful opportunities to share China’s experience in data governance with young participants during China-Africa youth exchange programs.
Through thoughtfully designed training content and teaching methods, the project team enhanced the data governance capabilities of public service personnel in Rwanda. This significantly advanced digital inclusion efforts and made a lasting impact on Rwanda’s digital transformation and sustainable development.
