On November 6, the SJTU Seattle Alumni Association held its second council election meeting in Seattle, where Deputy Secretary of the CPC SJTU Committee and Vice President of SJTU Weiwei Hu sent her congratulations in a video message. The meeting featured a variety of speakers, listed below:
- Yushen Wang from the Office of Development and Liaison, along with Liqiang Zhang from the Alumni Association Office, joined local alumni to reconnect and speak about future plans.
- Song Zou, outgoing President, thanked the university for its steady support throughout the years.
- Yushen Wang provided a brief rundown of SJTU’s progress over the years.
- Wenzhuo Ouyang outlined the transition preparations.
Liqiang Zhang introduced the new council lineup and presented appointment certificates to Chaohui Tang, who will take over as President, and Taoran Li, who will be the next Secretary-General.
Newly elected President Chaohui Tang thanked the university and alumni for their trust and support. He pledged to lead the new council in building a strong support network for the alumni in Seattle. Additionally, he spoke about promoting career development, innovation support, and entrepreneurship. His goal? To make the Seattle alumni association a warm, welcoming home for everyone.
Weiwei Hu sent warm greetings to all of the SJTU alumni in Seattle on behalf of the university. She praised the association for its efforts over the past seven years to unite alumni and support the university’s development. She encouraged the association to continue building a strong alumni community, calling on the alumni to carry forward the spirit of the university’s motto—“Remember the source when you drink from the well; honor your country and your alma mater”—through practical action and continued excellence in their respective fields.
Before the council election, the delegation visited Wyze, an alumni-founded enterprise created by 1999 bachelor’s and 2002 master’s graduate Yun Zhang, now Vice President of the new council. At the event, the SJTU Alumni Center in Seattle was officially unveiled, marking the university’s first such center in North America. Yun Zhang reflected on his time at SJTU and his continued connection to the university, stating that he hopes the alumni home will serve as a warm and welcoming hub for SJTU alumni in Seattle.

Founded in July 2017, the SJTU Seattle Alumni Association is currently led by President Chaohui Tang and Secretary-General Taoran Li. The association has connected with more than 1,000 SJTU alumni in the greater Seattle area and is formally registered as a local organization. The association regularly hosts alumni development forums focused on career advancement and innovation. It also provides valuable resources (such as career development and entrepreneurship forums) to its members and actively supports SJTU delegation visits, all of which help increase the university’s visibility and admissions efforts in the region.
