Background

With the acceleration of changes in the global governance system and international order, and the deepening of the dependence of all countries, mankind is facing a lot of common problems and challenges, and participation in global problem solving has become a realistic requirement for the cultivation of talents in all countries, and global competence is a key element to achieve this requirement.

In order to enhance the global competence of Jiao Tong students and cultivate young talents of the new era with international vision and Chinese sentiment, this lecture invited Dr. Zhang Ning, Vice President of China Society for Educational Development Strategies (CSEDS) and Chairman of International Competence Cultivation Committee, Wang Zhijia, Deputy Director of Academic Committee of International Organisations Talent Cultivation Committee of CSEDS and Consultant Professor of Tongji University, and Xue Yuxue, High-level Official of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), to our university. Xue Yuxue, a high-level official of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), came to our university to share their insights on international talent cultivation.

Zhang Ning

D., researcher, Vice President of China Society for Educational Development Strategies and Chairman of International Competency Development Committee, former Deputy Secretary General of China Scholarship Council, part-time professor of Zhejiang University and Beijing Foreign Studies University.

He was the Education Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Sweden, the Assistant Director of the Department of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the Ministry of Education and the Director of the Division of Study Abroad, and the Education Consul of the Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco.

He received his Bachelor's degree in Atomic Nuclear Physics from Peking University, Master's degree in Speech Recognition from the Institute of Acoustics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and PhD in Sociological Theory and Methods from Renmin University of China.

Wang Zhijia

Former Director of the Department of International Cooperation of the State Environmental Protection Administration, Deputy Director of the Division of Regional Cooperation of the United Nations Environment Programme, Special Adviser to the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, and Director of the United Nations Association of China.

He is currently the Deputy Director of the Academic Committee of the Special Committee on Talent Cultivation for International Organisations of the China Society for Educational Development Strategies, Consultant Professor of Tongji University, External Special Tutor of the Internationalisation Ability Cultivation Base of Zhejiang University, Special Advisor of Nanjing University on Talent Cultivation for International Organisations, Special Advisor of the School of International Organisations of Renmin University of China, and Practical Mentor of the Young Talent Camp of International Competence at Nankai University, among other positions.

He has a Bachelor's degree in English from the Foreign Languages Department of Nankai University and a Master's degree in International Environmental Law from Wuhan University.

Yuxue Xue

She is a former senior official of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and an expert member of the International Competency Development Committee of the Chinese Society for Educational Development Strategies (CSEDS).

She has served for nearly 30 years at UNDP headquarters in the United States, Switzerland and Germany, and at UNDP representative offices in Thailand, Iran, Afghanistan, Indonesia and other countries. She has served as a project officer and regional officer at headquarters, and as an assistant representative, deputy representative, deputy director and director of a national representative office, etc. She is committed to the work of international organisations and international development for a long period of time, and has a wealth of international organisations and diplomatic work experience. He has published books such as Writing International Official Documents.

Received a Bachelor's degree in Economics from the University of International Business and Economics and a Master's degree in Asia-Pacific Studies from the University of Leeds, United Kingdom. Also studied at the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, Tufts University, USA.
