Background and Purposes
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is one of the universities that provide targeted support to the Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture. To break the bottleneck for Dali’s plateau agriculture and remove the hurdles to local agricultural development, SJTU decided to hold the Ecologic&Economic Development Creative Challenge Camp in Dali for a total of 43 students from universities in Hong Kong, Macao and SJTU. It is hoped that young students could think about the problems from the perspectives of ecological protection and development via exercises, helping the prefecture achieve both agricultural development and ecological protection and contributing ideas to plateau agriculture for the prefecture.
General Outline
This camp is designed to seek input from students on green agricultural development in Dali. Students are expected to analyze its status quo, identify the pains and difficulties in the development, and explore new ideas for developing its plateau agriculture in terms of resources, market, ecology, science and technology, and industries.
The project will be held in Dali, where 23 students from the universities in Hong Kong and Macao and 20 SJTU students will participate for 14 days. The camp is accessible to the full-time undergraduates and postgraduates in the universities of Hong Kong, Macao and SJTU who are interested in agriculture, rural economic development, and ecological protection irrespective of academic disciplines. Students will be divided into eight teams to compete, and every team will be comprised of students from both Hong Kong and Macao as well as the mainland. Students can either team up freely or can be randomly grouped into different teams by the organizers after signing up. It’s advised to have a reasonable division of labor and form interdisciplinary teams.
By the end of the project, the teams are required to submit their practicable solutions to the corresponding problems in line with Dali’s current needs.
Management Guidelines
A review panel of one or two experts from Hong Kong and Macao, one or two experts from SJTU, and three to five local experts will be invited to evaluate the performance of the teams and decide the most excellent teams, which will be awarded a certificate by SJTU and Government of Dali Bai Autonomous Prefecture .
