Background and Purposes
Bulgaria has substantial resources for rural tourism, and particularly abounds with a variety of agricultural produce, so much that it has been the second largest fruit & vegetable exporter in Europe. Its diverse agricultural resources and beautiful natural environment have laid a solid foundation for its rural tourism. This project in question is designed to help build a competitive rural tourism industry for Bulgaria, increase its presence, and create a new platform for recreation seekers all over the world. Moreover, the project will also blaze new trails for local farmers to escape poverty and become prosperous.by promoting the development of supporting industries of rural tourism. Rural and agricultural development will in turn bring about more jobs for surplus workforce. As the rural economy grows, the ecological environment and cultural legacy will then be better protected and retained in rural areas.
General Outline
The monthlong project is scheduled in the summer of 2018. The process unfolds as follows:
Week 1: Reading up on relevant cases in China and beyond, making analysis, deciding on the sample site and setting targets.
Week 2: Conducting field research on geographical conditions, total area, local resources, production model, territorial space, etc.
Week 3: Proposing tourism models and development programs that factor in local income sources, economic structure, and tourism resources.
Week 4: Producing report on the assessment of cultural tourism resources and planning for rural ecotourism in Bulgaria.
Management Guidelines
The project team consists of 2 teachers, 2 doctoral candidates, 4 graduate students, and 2 undergraduate students. The project leader ensures production of the report, charts progress, deploy personnel, and replenish supplies. The other members shall work with each other to perform tasks as required.
