Shanghai Jiaotong University and the Fraunhofer Institute signed a memorandum of cooperation in October 2017. On March 26, 2019, they signed a formal contract to establish the first R&D and transformation agency officially recognized by the Fraunhofer Institute- Fraunhofer Project Center for Smart Manufacturing at Shanghai Jiaotong University. The project center takes German Industry 4.0, artificial intelligence, human-machine integration and collaborative robot technology as the core research direction and has now built the world's leading intelligent manufacturing demonstration line “Future Intelligence Experience Center”
