Approved by Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2012, Shanghai Jiao Tong University Multi-function Towing Tank project was invested about 98 million RMB totally. Occupying an area of 12,223 square meters, Multi-function Towing Tank is composed of towing tank, testing hall, office section and auxiliary area. The towing tank is 300m long, 16m wide and 7.5m deep with a 12m(L)*2.5m(W)*2.1m(D) dock.
Multi-function Towing Tank has the advanced equipment, including carriages, wave maker, and other measuring instruments. The main carriage has a maximum speed of up to 10m/s, reaching the first-class level in the world. The towing tank will have the capability to take various tests on rapidity and sea keeping, such as resistance test, self-propulsion test, and to forecast the sailing performance including underwater navigation, wing-in-ground effect, etc. Besides, the towing tank is also designed to take tests on ocean energy. The research focus contains applied mathematics, fluid mechanics, fluid-structure interaction, eddy current, optimization, new energy system and other subjects.
