“My Global SJTU” Talk Show Finals successfully held

International Affairs Division 2021-07-12 857

On the morning of July 7, 2021, "My Global SJTUTalk Show" Finals, jointly organized by the International Affairs Division, the SJTU Faculty and Staff Union, and the Office of Faculty Affairs, were held at the conference center in the Wenbo Building. Zhou Cheng, deputy secretary of the University Party Committee and Secretary of the Discipline Inspection Commission, attended and delivered a speech. Relevant leaders of different departments of the university were invited to attend and participate as judges.

In his speech, Zhou Cheng stressed that internationalization is the inherent characteristic of our school and the character and feature flowing in the blood of the people of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In December last year, the 11th Party Congress of the university proposed that we should speed up the construction of a new "comprehensive, innovative and international" education system standing at the historical intersection of the "two centenary" goals. Under this new school system, we have the task of constructing "a Global SJTU strategy and mechanism to promote the overall strength of running a school". What "My Global SJTU Talk Show" wants to demonstrate is the faculty and staff members' experiences, perceptions, and thoughts about "Global SJTU". The significance of this event lies not only in the present but also in the future. To unearth, record, and spread the story of international development is not only exploring and utilizing the school history but also creating and recording history for the future. We wish to construct a stage where anyone can talk about "Global SJTU", attract more staff to become a spokesman of "Global SJTU", tell the story of Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the world, and spread the "Global SJTU" that belongs uniquely to the people of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Zhou Cheng sincerely wishes all the best to the contestants and hope that they all achieve excellent results and have an exciting tournament.

After intense competition, Zhang Zhendong from the China-UK Low Carbon College won first prize, Tang Hao from the School of Physics and Astronomy and Hamza Boukili from the SJTU-ParisTech Elite Institute of Technology won second prize, Huang Zetian from the SJTU Faculty and Staff Union, Drapeau Samuel from the School of Mathematical Sciences and Chen Siyi from the School of Design won third prize. Other finalists include He Fangyu from the Publicity Department of Party Committee, Suo Yuhuan from the School of Foreign Languages, Tao Lina from the International Affairs Division, and John Van Fleet from Antai College of Economics and Management.

To increase the excitement of the competition, a challenge component was added to the finals. Xu Liting from the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering and Zhou Hang from the School of Continuing Education challenged the final contestants. Although they did not succeed in the challenge, their courage won the audience's applause, and they were awarded the "Best Courage Award".

The audience voted on the spot, and Tao Lina from the International Affairs Division won the "Popularity Award". The atmosphere of the event was warm, and Cheng Jiaojie, director of the Education Development Foundation, picked out a "lucky audience" and presented a small gift.
