On May 12, 2025, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) President Kuiling Ding welcomed Nanyang Technological University (NTU) President Teck-Hua Ho and his delegation to the Minhang Campus for a high-level dialogue aimed at strengthening ties between the two institutions.
The two sides held in-depth discussions on advancing joint education initiatives and deepening research collaboration.
During the meeting, President Ding reaffirmed SJTU’s commitment to launching joint education initiatives and called for the formalization of their partnership through a cooperation agreement. He outlined key objectives in talent development and scientific innovation, expressing hope for further breakthroughs. Additionally, he emphasized that increased research collaboration through shared lab facilities and optimized resources are essential in achieving such goals.
Adding to the conversation, President Ho introduced NTU’s strengths in faculty development and nurturing innovative talent, noting that these advantages serve as an important basis for expanding joint educational programs. Echoing President Ding’s earlier sentiments, the NTU President also indicated a desire to produce impactful international research by expanding work in areas such as integrated circuits and medical science.
During the visit, President Ho and Vice President Pooi See Lee toured SJTU’s UM-SJTU Joint Institute, visiting the Tang Junyuan Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center, the Yu Liming Student Center, and an alumni showcase. The tour provided a closer look into the university’s international, leadership-oriented, and innovation-driven approach to education.
The next part of the visit brought the NTU delegation to Grand NeoBay, one of SJTU’s key innovation hub for startups and tech ventures, where they were welcomed by Executive Vice President Lifeng Xi and Vice President Xiaoqin Zeng. There, the two universities discussed potential collaboration in technology transfer, entrepreneurship support, and intellectual property sharing. As part of the visit, NTU Vice President Louis Phee explored "One Kilometer Incubator" and toured several leading startups, gaining firsthand look into SJTU’s ecosystem for entrepreneurship and tech innovation.
Representatives from SJTU’s Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, Advanced Industrial Technology Research Institute, Grand NeoBay Special Office, and the UM-SJTU Joint Institute all took part in the visit.
