On May 16, Professor ZHANG Zhaoguo, Vice President of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, was invited to attend the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with The Scholarships Office, Presidential Court of United Arab Emirates (SCO) in Beijing.

H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi, Ambassador of the UAE to China, attended the ceremony and delivered a welcome speech. Subsequently, Mr. Juma Alremeithi, Director of SCO, and ZHANG Zhaoguo jointly signed the MoU.

As a key partner of China in the GCC region and a key-point country in the Belt and Road Initiative, the UAE has continuously deepened bilateral relations with China through educational cooperation that strengthen mutual trust. The signing of this MoU implements the bilateral cooperation framework between SJTU and SCO. It establishes mechanisms for concrete collaboration and coordination, stipulating that the SCO will recommend outstanding scholarship candidates to apply and study at SJTU. This facilitates collaborations in academic exchanges and talent cultivation, laying a solid foundation for serving the Belt and Road Initiative, enhancing Sino-UAE cultural exchanges, and comprehensively elevating SJTU’s visibility and influence in the Middle East.
