The Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Chinese Ministry of Education developed the program - “Volunteer Chinese Teachers to Speakers of Other Languages”, in a bid to promote the Chinese language and its teaching around the world, facilitate the dissemination of the Chinese language and culture, and deepen mutual understanding and friendship between China and the rest of the world. It supports domestic and foreign institutions for international cooperative programs for Chinese language teaching. To this end, Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) is tasked with selecting excellent volunteers aspiring for Chinese language teaching and sending them to overseas educational institutions (the Confucius Institute at Heidelberg University, the Confucius Institute at the University of New South Wales and Confucius Institute in Auckland) to teach the Chinese language.
