On November 11, 2024, President Ding Kuiling and Vice President Liu Weidong of Shanghai Jiao Tong University met with President Joachim Hornegger and his delegation from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg at the Minhang campus.
Ding Kuiling stated that the two universities share a high degree of alignment in their educational philosophies, both emphasizing original scientific innovation and the transformation of research achievements, while jointly addressing the challenges faced by the Earth and humanity. The two universities already have a strong foundation for cooperation, particularly in fields such as medical machinery, mechanical engineering, and electronic information. He expressed hope that, in the future, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg would further strengthen their collaboration in areas such as medicine, engineering, technological innovation, and the transformation of research achievements through various forms of cooperation.
Joachim Hornegger introduced the recent developments at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, highlighting its unique research and innovation ecosystem. He expressed hope that the two universities could deepen their cooperation in research and teaching, promote academic exchange between students and faculty in fields such as medicine, engineering, and mathematics, and foster collaboration in innovation and entrepreneurship.
Both sides agreed to include leading global enterprises in the cooperation between the two universities, specifically mentioning Siemens Healthineers, which visited Shanghai Jiao Tong University alongside the delegation from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. Both sides recognized that global challenges must be addressed through cross-border and cross-disciplinary cooperation to effectively tackle the potential issues facing global development.
After the seminar, the visiting delegation from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg also visited the Translational Medicine Research Institute, the Zero Bay Technology Innovation Hub, and the Jiading District of the Ruijin Hospital affiliated with Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
The participants in this meeting included relevant faculty members from the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, the School of Mechanical Engineering and Power Engineering, the Translational Medicine Research Institute, and the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges.
