The 26th Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Osaka University Academic Exchange Seminar was held from November 6 to 8, 2024, at the Minhang campus of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. Over 50 experts and scholars from various fields participated in the seminar from both universities.
On the morning of November 7, the opening ceremony of the seminar was held in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Zhou Cheng, Vice Party Secretary of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and Koichi Fukasawa, Vice President of Osaka University, attended the ceremony and delivered speeches on behalf of their respective universities. The ceremony was chaired by Chen Ke, Deputy Director of the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange.
Zhou Cheng, on behalf of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, extended a warm welcome to the delegation from Osaka University. He pointed out that the two universities have a long history of cooperation, beginning with academic exchanges at the Welding Institute in 1979, which has now lasted for over 40 years. The two sides have achieved significant results in joint student training, scientific research collaboration, and youth exchanges, establishing a strong foundation of friendship and cooperation.
Koichi Shinase expressed that the bilateral academic symposium has become an important platform for scholars from both universities to showcase their research achievements and promote innovation. It has strongly facilitated in-depth academic cooperation across multiple fields and supported the internationalization development of both institutions. He looks forward to future discussions on cutting-edge research outcomes and development trends in their respective academic fields, further advancing research collaboration and talent development through this platform.
The symposium covered a wide range of academic fields, including shipbuilding and ocean engineering, smart cities, combustion engineering, welding and materials science, laser physics, and industrial biotechnology. From the afternoon of November 6 to the morning of November 8, academic reports, discussions, and laboratory tours were held in various fields. The symposium will further promote in-depth cooperation between the two universities in academic research and education, injecting new momentum into their joint development.
During the symposium, Zhou Cheng and Koichi Shinase discussed the upcoming student exchange activities and cooperation related to the 2025 Osaka World Expo. The Osaka University delegation also visited the Shanghai Jiao Tong University History Museum and the Zhendao Li Library, gaining a deeper understanding of the university’s history and development.
The relevant scholars from the School of Naval Architecture, Ocean and Civil Engineering, the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, the School of Materials Science and Engineering, the School of Physics and Astronomy, and the School of Life Science and Technology, as well as personnel from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, attended the event.
