From July 21st to 26th, The 40th International Symposium on Combustion was held in Milan, Italy. Dr. Wei Li, an assistant professor from the Institute of Aerospace Propulsion, School of Mechanical Engineering, was awarded the Bernard Lewis Fellowship by the Combustion Institute. Among all the six winners, Wei Li is the only researcher from China.

Wei Li is engaged in the fundamental combustion research of carbon-neutral fuels. Her research focuses on the combustion characteristics of carbon-neutral fuels such as ammonia, hydrogen, renewable synthetic fuels, and biofuels. The kinetic models applicable for a wide range of engine conditions are developed and the contributing factors and mechanisms for fuel reactivity and pollutant formation are revealed.

Wei Li has published 23 papers on top-level scientific journals such as the Innovation Energy, Combustion and Flame, and Proceedings of the Combustion Institute. She is serving as a Secretary General of the 3rd Symposium on Ammonia Energy and has received the Nomination Award of Distinguished PhD Dissertations of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Distinguished Postdoctoral Award of Shanghai Municipality, and Liyuan Postdoctoral Fellowship of School of Mechanical Engineering in Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The Bernard Lewis Fellowship is named after Prof. Bernard Lewis, who is one of the most famous combustion scientists in history and founder of the Combustion Institute. It is assessed biennially, and rewards young scholars obtained a PhD degree within three years who have contributed high-level research and have outstanding academic potential.
