Consul General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai visited SJTU

On 14 May 2024, Vice President Liu Weidong met with Rakhimov Rakhymzhan, Consul General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai, and his delegation at the Minhang Campus, with representatives from the Office of International Cooperation and Exchanges of the university and Michigan College attending the meeting.

Liu Weidong welcomed the arrival of the Consul General and his delegation, and briefly introduced the basic situation of Jiaotong University in talent cultivation, scientific research, internationalisation and other aspects. He pointed out that Kazakhstan is a friendly neighbour of China, and is the first place to build the ‘One Belt, One Road’, and Jiaotong University attaches great importance to the friendly cooperation with Kazakhstan, and signed a memorandum of cooperation with two top Central Asian universities, namely, Ali Al-Farabi State University and Nazarbayev University, in 2018.

Rakhimov Rakhymzhan said he was very honoured to visit Jiaotong University and appreciated the university's fruitful work in international exchanges and cooperation, and hoped that the two sides would explore a deeper and more pragmatic partnership in international student enrollment, the construction of joint scientific research bases and overseas centres, and faculty exchanges. The Consulate General of Kazakhstan in Shanghai will, as always, play the role of a bridge to promote higher education and humanistic exchanges and cooperation between the two countries.

After the meeting, the Consul General and his entourage also exchanged views with international students of Kazakh nationality studying in Jiao Tong University.
