Academician Chunhai Fan Leads Delegation from Shanghai Jiao Tong University to Visit Macau

March 24-27, Academician Chunhai Fan, Executive Dean of the Translational Medicine Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, led a delegation to visit Macau. During the visit, they met with Ho Iat Seng, Chief Executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region, visited the Macau University of Science and Technology, and attended the 24th anniversary celebrations of the university.

On March 26, Chunhai Fan and his delegation visited the Macau SAR Government Headquarters and met with Ho Iat Seng to exchange views on promoting the development of artificial intelligence and the health industry.

Ho Iat Seng welcomed the visit of Academician Fan and his delegation. He stated that the SAR government is focusing on the "1+4" strategy for moderate diversified economic development, with traditional Chinese medicine research and manufacturing as the starting point, cultivating and developing the health industry. Ho Iat Seng affirmed the collaborative efforts between Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Macau University of Science and Technology in jointly researching and exploring the integration of artificial intelligence and the health industry. He highly praised the idea of establishing a branch of the National Translational Medicine Center (Shanghai) in Macau and expressed support from the SAR government.

Chunhai Fan introduced the basic situation and strategic goals of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's health plan and the Shanghai Institute of Artificial Intelligence. He stated that translational medicine can break down barriers between basic and clinical medicine, contribute to new breakthroughs in medicine, and rapidly transform basic research results into a new research system for clinical treatment. Shanghai Jiao Tong University is actively promoting the transformation of scientific research results into industry, contributing to the health cause of the people.

At the Macau University of Science and Technology, Chunhai Fan exchanged views with relevant departments such as the Macau University of Science and Technology Foundation on the establishment of the National Translational Medicine Center (Shanghai) Macau Branch. It is hoped that through the construction of the Macau Branch, the scientific research strength and industrial resources of both sides can be integrated to carry out in-depth cooperation in applied basic research, technology R&D, outcome transformation, academic exchange, and talent cultivation, promoting the cross-integration of the two universities in the fields of life health and artificial intelligence, and serving the Healthy China strategy.
