From 10 to 13 December 2023, Gu Feng, Executive Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the University, and his delegation were invited to visit Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions in Shanghai, the Federation of Shanghai and Hong Kong Associations, the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals in Hong Kong, Po Leung Kuk, the Federation of Kowloon Associations of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), as well as attending a seminar for the representatives of the alumni of the University in Hong Kong. Mr Wang Weiming, Director of the Science and Education Department of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the University and Vice-President of the University, attended the relevant activities.
In the afternoon of 10th, the delegation met with Chen Haohua, Chairman of the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions (HKFTSU) in Shanghai, and Yao Heng, President of the HKFTSU. Gu Feng said that Hong Kong people and enterprises in Shanghai have contributed a lot to the cooperation and development of Shanghai and Hong Kong, and hoped that both sides will strengthen the linkage and cooperation in the future, and jointly promote the exchanges and contacts between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
In the morning of 11th, Gu Feng and others visited the Federation of Shanghai and Hong Kong Associations (FSHKA), which was kindly received by the Chairman of FSHKA, Mr Yao Zuhui, the President of FSHKA, Mr Guan Baihao, and the Executive Vice-President of FSHKA, Mr Zheng Jianhao, a member of the Board of Trustees of the school. Zheng Jianhao introduced the process of the founding and development of the association, and Gu Feng introduced the development history and conditions of the school, and hoped to carry out better exchanges and co-operation between Hong Kong and Shanghai with the support of the Federation of Shanghai and Hong Kong Associations in the future.
On the afternoon of 11th, Gu Feng and his delegation visited the Department of Education, Science and Technology of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong. Wu Cheng and Ye Shuiqiu, Vice Ministers of Education, Science and Technology Department of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong, received them cordially. Gu Feng introduced the school's work in Hong Kong and this visit. The Department of Education and Science of the Liaison Office of the Central Government in Hong Kong fully affirmed the visit and indicated that it would continue to support the cooperation between SJTU and Hong Kong in the fields of science, technology and innovation as well as education, and jointly promote the exchanges and contacts between Shanghai and Hong Kong.
On the morning of 12th, Gu Feng and his delegation had an exchange talk with the main members of the Board of Directors of TWGHs, visited TWGHs Wong Fut Nam Secondary School and made a presentation on student recruitment. Both sides had an in-depth discussion on the enrolment and training of young students. Both sides expressed that they would continue to deepen the exchange between Shanghai and Hong Kong, especially the cooperation in the fields of innovation and technology, and jointly contribute to the construction of a strong scientific and technological country and the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
On the morning of 13th, the delegation met with members of the Board of Directors of Po Leung Kuk, Hong Kong, and was cordially received by the Chairman of Po Leung Kuk, Lai Wai Lian Chan, and others. Gu Feng introduced the development history and conditions of the school. Chairman Chan Lai Wai Lian hoped that secondary schools under Po Leung Kuk would have the opportunity to come to SJTU for exchange and learning in the future.
On the morning of 13th, the delegation visited the Hong Kong Kowloon Federation of Associations (HKKFA). The President of HKKFA, Ms Wang Huizhen, and the Chairperson of HKKFA, Ms Xu Li, warmly welcomed Gu Feng and others, and thanked SJTU for providing support to many Hong Kong university students under the "Youth Jumpstart" Hong Kong Youth Internship Programme, and looked forward to deeper cooperation and exchanges in the future. We look forward to deeper co-operation and exchanges in the future.
In the afternoon of 13th, the delegation visited the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where the Vice President of HKUST, Mr Andrew Ng, introduced the situation of HKUST in scientific research, talent development and education. The two sides discussed warmly on promoting talent exchange, scientific and technological co-operation, and education development. Gu Feng and others visited the State Key Laboratory of Advanced Display and Photovoltaic Technology and the Zheng Jiachen Robotics Research Institute.
During the visit to Hong Kong, Gu Feng and his delegation also had talks with representatives of the Hong Kong Alumni Association and young alumni in Hong Kong. Gu Feng introduced the recent development of his alma mater and his thoughts on the future development of the university to the alumni. He highly affirmed the important role played by the Hong Kong Alumni Association in the development of the alma mater, and hoped that the young alumni in Hong Kong would continue to carry forward the spirit of pragmatism and truthfulness of Jiao Tong University, and contribute to the progress of the society in the process of their work or study, and said that "the alma mater will always be the alumni's strong backing and a warm spiritual home. The alma mater will always be the strong support and warm spiritual home of the alumni".
Wang Houji, Director of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee, Wu Chao, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office and Director of the Admission Office, Zhang Jie, Deputy Director of the United Front Work Department of the Party Committee, and Zhang Liqiang, Deputy Director of the Office of the Alumni General Association, accompanied the visit.
