On the afternoon of 13 December, President of SJTU and Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Ding Quiling met with Steven Chu (Steven Chu), former U.S. Secretary of Energy, 1997 Nobel Prize winner in Physics, Professor of Stanford University, and Foreign Academician of CAS, and his entourage on the Minhang Campus. Vice President Xu Xuemin and Huang Zhen, academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering and dean of Intelligent Energy Innovation College, attended the reception.

Ding Quiling extended a warm welcome to Steven Chu and his delegation. He introduced the latest situation of the university in green energy research and development. He said that SJTU has a profound R&D foundation and extensive research layout in future energy technologies, and he hoped that SJTU and Stanford University could seek cooperation and promote development in green energy and carbon neutrality.

Steven Zhu thanked the university for its warm reception. He said pragmatic international cooperation and exchanges will help mankind better cope with global challenges such as climate change. He highly appreciated the success of SJTU in recent years and its international influence, and was willing to support the cooperation and exchanges between Stanford University and SJTU.

After the meeting, Steven Chu gave a lecture on "Climate Change and Innovative Paths to a More Sustainable Future" as a guest of the 207th SJTU Masters Forum in the Takata Hall of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering. More than 200 students and teachers from the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, Carbon Neutral Development Institute and other colleges listened to the lecture. Huang Zhen delivered a welcome speech and presented Steven Chu with a certificate and souvenir on behalf of the organising committee of the forum. Steven Chu and his entourage also visited the laboratories of the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, the Carbon Neutral Development Research Institute, and the University History Museum.

During the visit of Professor Steven Zhu and his delegation to SJTU Carbon Neutral Development Institute (CNDI), Academician Huang Zhen, Director of the Institute, introduced the rapid development of renewable energy in China and his thoughts on the green transformation of energy under the vision of carbon neutrality, and elaborated on the great significance of the joint cooperation between China and the United States in addressing climate change globally. SJTU Carbon Neutral Institute and US-China Green Energy Association signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation agreement. The two sides are willing to use the US-China Green Energy Association as a platform to deepen the cooperation and exchange in the field of climate change and energy transition, and work together to create a better future.

In the morning of the same day, Steven Zhu and his entourage attended the symposium of "Choose Prynne, Choose the Future" in Prynne Institute of Future Technology, and talked with the young researchers of the Institute about the topics of future energy and future health, etc. Xu Xuemin attended the symposium and delivered a speech.
