On September 27, 2023, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and KTH Royal Institute of Technology reaffirmed the two universities’ strategic partnership, underscoring the two universities' desire to strengthen and expand collaboration in education and scientific research and innovation.

As long-term strategic partners, SJTU and KTH have developed an array of academic and student exchange programs, including joint degree programs at the Master’s and doctoral levels as well as regular faculty and staff workshops.

During this visit, SJTU Vice-President Lisa X. Xu and KTH Vice-President Stefan Östlund jointly chaired a steering committee to review next year’s candidates for the joint PhD program between the two universities. In addition to the joint PhD program, the vice-presidents also discussed ways to further strengthen collaboration in research and innovation, particularly in the domains of science and engineering.

Underscoring the comprehensive research relationship between SJTU and KTH, senior SJTU leadership from the Institute of Translational Medicine, the Michigan-SJTU Joint Institute, the School of Mechanical Engineering, the School of Biomedical Engineering, and the School of Mathematical Sciences engaged the Swedish delegation on a diverse array of issues, ranging from student mobility programs to interdisciplinary research collaborations.
