Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) celebrated the inauguration of its "Jiao Tong Gateway" at Hongqiao Hui in the Hongqiao International Central Business District (Minhang) on December 27th. The ceremony marked the concurrent establishment of several facilities, including the SAIF Greater Hongqiao Center.
Distinguished attendees included Shanghai Deputy Mayor and CPC Minhang District Committee Secretary Yujian Chen, SJTU President and Chinese Academy of Sciences Academician Kuiling Ding, SAIF Board Founding Chair Guangshao Tu, and other prominent officials from municipal government and university leadership.
SJTU, established in 1896, stands as a premier national university under the Ministry of Education's direct supervision and enjoys collaborative support from the Shanghai Municipal Government. As a participant in China's "Double First-Class" Initiative, "985 Project," and "211 Project," the university maintains campuses across Shanghai's Xuhui, Minhang, Huangpu, Changning, and Pudong districts.
The "Jiao Tong Gateway" project, realized through strategic partnership with the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Minhang District, aims to establish a premier talent hub for the Yangtze River Delta region. The facility will serve as a catalyst for scientific innovation and corporate collaboration.
Deputy Mayor Chen emphasized the project's alignment with national strategic initiatives, particularly in advancing the Hongqiao International Open Hub and Yangtze River Delta integration. The development exemplifies President Xi's "Three-zone Interaction" strategy, connecting universities, parks, and communities.
President Ding acknowledged the crucial support of the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Minhang District, highlighting SJTU's evolution through reform and commitment to excellence. He noted that SAIF, as SJTU's most internationally oriented institute, would leverage its new Greater Hongqiao Center to enhance Shanghai's position as a talent hub and to facilitate high-end industrial training and technological transfer.
The "Jiao Tong Gateway" facility spans over 3,400 square meters, featuring state-of-the-art teaching facilities, reception areas, offices, and collaborative spaces. SAIF Greater Hongqiao Center incorporates advanced Internet and IoT technologies, establishing new standards in executive education while capitalizing on its strategic location within the Asia-Pacific region.
Dean Shijun Cheng outlined the center's strategic vision, emphasizing its role in delivering comprehensive high-end training programs. The facility has already demonstrated significant impact, having trained over 80,000 managers from various sectors, including 24,000 participants in 2024 alone. Notable initiatives include the prestigious Shanghai Financial Talents Seminar.
The ceremony concluded with attendance from key stakeholders across the Hongqiao Business District, the Minhang District, and SJTU leadership—including SAIF Associate Deans Yong Zhang and Muzhi Wang.
