Second Hong Kong-Shanghai Science and Finance Forum Convenes in Hong Kong

The Second Hong Kong- Shanghai Science and Finance Forum was successfully held in Hong Kong on December 13th, jointly organized by the Hong Kong Foundation of Shanghai Advanced Institute of Finance (SAIF) and the Advanced Industrial Technology Research Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU).

 

Under the theme "Transformation of Scientific and Technological Achievements and Industrial Capital Investment," the forum brought together distinguished scholars and industry leaders from Shanghai and Hong Kong to explore innovation, address challenges, and discuss strategies for accelerating market adoption through capital deployment.

Notable participants included Professor Xinghao Jiang, Vice President of SJTU; Professor Shijun Cheng, Executive Dean of SAIF; Professor Christopher Yuhang Chao, Vice President of Research and Innovation at Hong Kong Polytechnic University; and Academician Chunhai Fan, Dean of SJTU's School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering. The forum was moderated by Jingyi Zeng of Phoenix New Media.

 

In his opening address, Professor Jiang emphasized the forum's alignment with governmental priorities on leveraging science and education for high-quality development. He underscored the critical role of technology transfer in economic growth and called for enhanced Shanghai-Hong Kong collaboration in innovation and finance.

 

Professor Cheng presented SAIF's achievements and outlined the Foundation's "1+3" framework, comprising a global industry-academia-research ecosystem and three platforms dedicated to sharing, research, and industry matchmaking. He reaffirmed SAIF's commitment to talent acquisition and practical research advancement.

The keynote session featured comprehensive discussions on frontier technology commercialization and financial innovation. Highlights included Professor Chao's insights on global technology collaboration trends, Academician Fan's analysis of synthetic biology opportunities, and Professor Chen's examination of AI and quantum chemistry applications.

 

Of particular note was Yiwen Jian's presentation on Hong Kong's innovation initiatives since 2015, detailing over HK$200 billion in strategic investments across infrastructure, education, and global cooperation—with emphasis on biotechnology, AI, fintech, and advanced technologies.

 

The forum concluded with a dynamic roadshow session showcasing cutting-edge projects from SJTU and InnoHK's research platforms, spanning biotechnology, AI, embodied intelligence, and low-altitude economy applications. These presentations demonstrated the practical implementation potential of academic research in driving technological advancement and economic growth in both cities.

This collaborative event exemplified the strengthening ties between Shanghai and Hong Kong in fostering technological innovation and financial integration, setting a foundation for future cooperation in the advancement of scientific achievement and industrial development.
